Creating Basic Calendar Layouts

Oberon Calendar Wizard 4.1 comes with a set of base calendar layouts which include everything from a basic monthly wall calendar to a desk day planner.

Each layout type has default properties for layout elements such as borders and fonts which look considerable well for most page sizes. However keep in mind that some layouts are specially geared for particular paper size/orientation and may look very bad if the current paper size selected is far from optimal. For example, a wide horizontal 12 month calendar (1 x 12 calendar blocks) will look awful on a standard Letter page because it requires page with aspect close to 12 : 1 (e.g 12 1/2" x 1 1/8" will work just fine and create a nice computer keyboard sticker calendar).

Also most layouts come in two variations - best suited for portrait and landscape page orientation, so pick the one which suits your requirements best.

To create a calendar layout quickly, do the following steps:

  1. Launch CorelDRAW
  2. Create an empty document and specify the page size of your future calendar (you can omit this step and do the same right in Calendar Wizard, if you wish)
  3. Start Calendar Wizard 4.1
  4. If you didn't create a new document and setup the page size in step 2, then go to the Page Layout group on the Project tab of the dialog and specify the page size and orientation.

  5. Pick the layout from Layout list. You can use this page as a visual reference of how each layout looks like.
  6. In Calendar Date specify the date of your calendar (you will have a choice of year, month and/or day depending on the calendar layout selected). You may also enter the number of pages to generate. So, if you chose a monthly calendar layout (Month: Large) and want to create a calendar for 3 months, then you can specify "3" in Pages field.

  7. Confirm that the layout looks satisfactorily in the preview window. If you specified more than one page in the Calendar Date group, you can preview them in turn by using the small scroll buttons below the preview window.

  8. Click Generate button to create the layout in CorelDRAW.
  9. If everything looks OK, close the Calendar Wizard windows by clicking the Close button

Instead of picking a default layout properties, you can choose one of pre-designed calendar layouts which are available from the Preset list. The preset calendars contain not only layout specifications but are designs complete with font and color schemes and can be either used as is or further customized to achieve the effect you want.

If the default calendar style looks too plain or if the preset designs need to be modified, then proceed to the next page to learn how to customize layout parameters.
