Default Recent Files
I seem to recall seeing this before because it had removed the MSCOMCTL.OCX file, you might check your system32 folder and see if it is there.

Mscomtl.ocx is registered
it seems that some other reference is missing

What error do you get? If you look at the references does it show anything missing?

interesting...I've had a similar problem so I just restored my Windows 7 system to about a week before I noticed the error.
